Independent, and what that has to mean

Itylfe Ltd is registered for information technology consultancy activities (SIC 62020) and is registered at Kaims Place, Livingston, West Lothian.

The word independent is used loosely in IT, usually by firms that are paid by the suppliers they recommend. Here it means something specific: we hold no vendor partnership, reseller agreement or referral arrangement, we take no commission, margin or rebate from any supplier whose product we might recommend, and we do not sell the implementation of our own advice. If that changes for a particular engagement, we will say so in writing before the work starts.

What we produce is options rather than a single answer. Each one costed to buy and to run, with what it depends on, what it rules out and what happens if nothing is done. We will say which we would choose and why, and the reasoning is there to be argued with.

Scope is agreed in writing before work starts, including what is out of it. Recommendations are for the client to decide upon and act on; we do not make decisions that belong to the people who have to live with them.

Itylfe Ltd is registered in Scotland, and our terms are governed by the law of Scotland and the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
